Big WAYS Radio, Charlotte, NC

In 1965, Big WAYS radio (610 AM) arrived in Charlotte, and shook up the airwaves. Big WAYS was known to play more Rock & Roll in amongst their Top 40 playlist, and their promotions got the station a lot of attention. Revisit those heady days here via a Facebook page about Big WAYS radio here-

    1. Hi Michael. WAYS actually signed on in 1941. It wasn't until the Kaplan family bought it in 1965 that it went to a Top 40 format, and became the popular Big WAYS.

  5. This station played snippets of several songs or the sound an object would make (rail road crossing bell, pane of breaking glass, etc;). And those searches for hidden objects located in the city. And who can forget the sing alongs with the tag "exactly the same, only totally different".

  6. WAYS AM 610 on the dial was the soundtrack to our life back in the '60's! Everywhere we went, WAYS was on the air playing all the Top 40 hits of the day. At home, in the car at the corner store, WAYS was king! Jack Gale in the morning, Mike Greene in the afternoon and Long John Silver in the evening. They were like family! "🎵 Sixty onederful W A Y S🎶
