Double Door Inn Anniversary Reunion Show, December 17, 2017

For over 43 years, the Double Door Inn was more than an old house on Charlottetowne Avenue. It was recognized as one of the oldest blues music venues in the United States, bringing in musicians of all genres to Charlotte, NC. It was the place that you went to hang out on Friday afternoon, or Saturday night. To meet old friends, and make new ones. What had once been the house built by the Wearn family, one of the prominent families in Charlotte during the early 20th centuries, become the home of the Charlotte music scene, and the place where owner Nick Karres oversaw countless nights of music and memories.

While we cannot bring it back, this show is a homecoming for the many that had the Double Door Inn pass through them, just as much as we passed through it. On the week that the venue would have celebrated its 44th anniversary, we bring together some of the musicians that made the Double Door their home. Lenny Federal Band, Crisis, and Woody Mitchell & Loafers Glory. We also will screen Live From The Double Door Inn, the documentary about the venue’s history and final days. We also welcome back Nick Karres and his family, who have been part of our own extended families for many years.

Gather, return, and let the music play on.

Offering Jake Berger Prints At His Benefit On Saturday

I'm printing some late '90s photos of Jake Berger to donate to the the silent auction portion of Jake's benefit concert at the Double Door Inn on Saturday. I just found these photos, and these are their first-ever printing. If you're not interested in photos of Jake, I'm also offering prints for the silent auction of any subjects in my archive. I'm also currently working on scanning my archives from 1996-2002. Any requests? In the words of the Blind Boys Of Alabama, we got it, if you got it. See you on Saturday, and see you on the road.

Hello All-

If you're in Charlotte, NC on December 15th, come out to the Thirsty Beaver Saloon around 5pm. Book co-author Jake Berger will be there leading the Mannish Boys in some raucous Rock & Roll. His co-author, yours truly, will be there to say hello and maybe shake a tambourine.

Fort Canoga Press has now released its second book! This book, Charlotte's Home Of The Blues, is an update of a book I co-authored with the late Debby Wallace in 2009 on Charlotte's fabled blues music venue. The book features Jake Berger, and many other folks featured in There Was A Time. I've added a new chapter, new photos, and the first-ever publication of photos from the night that Eric Clapton played the Double Door. You can purchase the book here-
