StudioEast (Arthur Smith Studios) Is Closing
Hello all-
I wanted to pass along the sad news that Arthur Smith Studios, more recently StudioEast, is closing after 55 years in business. The studio portion will go elsewhere, while the building is now owned by a law firm. While the building itself will thankfully still exist, it is sad to see the end of a place where so many famous people worked and recorded. This includes several songs featured in There Was A Time, including "Abba" by the Paragons, "Catch A Ride" by the Grifs, "Go Way Girl" by the Damascans, the Young Ages, and many, many more.
May the music and the people that created there live forever.

Young Ages! November 25th! Double Door Inn!!!
Hello all-
Spread the word! The Charlotte 60s Rock & Roll Reunion presents the Young Ages for their final appearance at the Double Door Inn. The Young Ages were one of Charlotte's top Rock & Roll bands during the 1960s, winning the Big WAYS Battle Of The Bands Contest in 1968. The band's story was featured in There Was A Time: Rock & Roll In Charlotte, And North Carolina During The 1960s.
Tickets are $12. Doors are at 8pm, and Stan Barkley & Friends will open at 8:30pm. Come on, come all, happy holidays and rejoice at the Double Door Inn, one more time.

There Was A Time Second Edition Is Now Available
It's now available! The second edition of There Was A Time: Rock & Roll In The 1960s In Charlotte, And North Carolina is now ready for purchase. This new edition features a whole new design by Greg Russell, several new interviews, newly found photos, discography, index, and a more complete story of the Rock & Roll scene in North Carolina during that remarkable time. My thanks as always to my co-author Jake Berger, Donny Fletcher, and everyone that's been a part of this project. Please come out to our events at the Charlotte Museum Of History on June 12th, and our big release party/Charlotte 60s Reunion concert at Neighborhood Theatre on June 21st. Until then, safe travels.

Where To Check Out The Music Of NC In The 1960s
Hello All-
A source of both inspiration, and research for this book came from Ken Friedman's Tobacco A Go Go series, which chronicled the 45s of many North Carolina bands during the 1960s. Ken released Volume One in 1983, and released the second volume in 1986. In 2008, he released the third volume as a free download, which can be found here-

The great record label Paradise Of Batchelors reissued Volume One a couple of years ago. They are now sold out, but you listen to it to their website here-

This is all great music, and I highly recommend it all, and am happy to acknowledge Ken for the work that he's done over the years. Many of the bands featured in these volumes can also be found separately on Youtube, and I'll give you more of these links shortly.
